escaping winter

Maybe I should have titled this post. Wanna see a hundred photos of our vacation? Click here...
We took a little vacaysh to the desert a couple weeks ago and then a little detour to Anaheim to curb our hunger for a Mickey Mouse sighting. When we left home the temperature was in the single digits and we were lucky enough to have almost 90 degree pool weather the entire time we spent in Arizona. A quick reprieve from the heat while at Disneyland turned out to be perfect for standing in ride lines. Let me tell you now, spring break is not the time to take a trip to Disneyland. We found a lot more people were there than there were last May. But that didn't take away from any of the fun we had.
I guess we should just start at the beginning. With our mini hike at Papago park. The boys and I visited in January so we were excited to show Ty.

Then a little swimming and hanging out. Eating and drinking. I mean we are on vacation.

We did quite a bit of scooter riding and exploring the Civic Center Mall park in Scottsdale. They know how to do fountains. And relaxing at the hotel. The Valley Ho.

The next phase of our trip was driving to California. We may have stopped more than once an hour but we made it. And we headed straight for Huntington Beach. We weren't really prepared for the full body dip in the pacific as we didn't have the boys wear swim trunks and we also had no towels. But the little surf shop on the beach did so we came home with a souvenir from HB.

Next on the agenda, Disneyland. Specifically Cars Land at California Adventure. Its like walking straight into Radiator Springs. Disney did not miss a beat. We waited in line for over an hour for the Radiator Springs racers ride. It was a little on the long side for the wait but the ride was pretty spectacular. But our favorite ride at California Adventure was Soarin' Over California. It's basically like getting an aerial tour of the entire state while riding in the open air. Amazing.

We only had 2 days in Anaheim so we had to make hay while the sun shined. And that we did. Day 2 was reserved for the Disneyland park. We got to see lots of the characters and ride some of our favorites from last year. Buzz Lightyears Astro Blasters and Gadget's Go Coaster. You will want to see the video of the latter. It's priceless.

After 2 wonderful day at the happiest place on earth we headed back to the desert. It was good to be back. It's kind of like our home away from home.

And then just 12 hours later we boarded a plane home to North Dakota. It was awaiting us with open arms and a firm 8 degrees above zero. We had an amazing time in Scottsdale, Gilbert and Orange County. We will be back soon, I promise.

disorder in the house

You know that term organized chaos. Yeah that's not exactly what is happening here in the Braaflat casa. There's about 90% chaos and about 10% organization going on these days. We are finally getting to redoing our lower level since the flood. And are about neck deep right now. Here's what I mean:

And my dining room looks like this:

And don't even get me started on the garage, entryway and our bedroom. Basically the entire house is in utter disarray. Sometimes I just want to circle the block instead of pulling into the driveway. But soon we will be done and boy will it be nice to double our living space.

In the mean time we have been spending a lot of time like this.

If making snow angels doesn't make things better, I'm not sure what will.

they call them man's best friend

aka the day we took Olive home.
Ty has wanted a dog ever since he was a kid. Specifically a hunting dog. You see pheasant hunting is his jam. And a dog would make it just that much sweeter. Enter Olive. I also call her the snapping alligator.

If I'd known how much work a puppy was, I would have just had another baby. But really she is the sweetest and fits right into our little family. Finally another girl.

arizona love

It was about -15 degrees when we left North Dakota. And a sunshiny 70 when we arrived in Arizona. A few things on the agenda for this trip were going to the zoo, playing at parks, mini golf, and hiking papago park. Ty had to stay behind and work so it was just the boys and I. The trip did not start out well as we spent the first two hours on the airplane on the runway while they fixed something. And then we had to stop in Colorado to refuel. We ended up getting there about 3 hours late but was promptly greeted by my parents with a meal along side a blue moon. A few of my favorite photos from the week:

making the best of the delay with wiki sticks.

mini shopping carts at Trader Joes. I ate a total of 3 tomato basil hummus containers by myself during the week. And did not even share.

mini golf. enjoying the weather.

Tumbleweed park.

hiking hole in the rock trail at papago park.

after our mini hike we spent the afternoon at the phoenix zoo.

McCormick-Stillman in Scottsdale

the Sugar Bowl for lunch and of course our ice cream fix

enjoying old town

we played ball near the fountains at Civic Center Mall in Scottsdale

We had a ball. The boys loved Five Guys so much they requested it a second time before we left. And our afternoon in Scottsdale playing at the parks was the highlight of the trip for me. We aren't used to wearing tshirts outside in January. But I don't think it would take long to warm up to the idea.

(also thanks mom and dad for being the best host and hostess!)
